The 21st Century Automotive Challenge, "Spirit of the American Tour de Sol" moves to Penn State April 17th-19th, 2009.
For the past two years this competition has been held in Burlington County, New Jersey in the first part of June. Please note the change in time and the change in location.
Dr. Joel Anstrom, director of the Hybrid and Hydrogen Vehicle Research Lab at Penn State, will be the new coordinator of this annual electric and hybrid car competition. Dr. Anstrom's transportation program is located in the Thomas D. Larson Transportation Research Building which is walking distance from famous Beaver Stadium, home of Joe Paterno and the Penn State football team.

Dr. Anstrom participated as a student in an earlier Tour de Sol as a member of the Penn State hybrid car team. He has not lost his enthusiasm for the spirit of the Tour de Sol and wants to enable more student teams to have the same opportunities that he did.
Pictured below is Dr. Joel Anstrom from Penn State and Dr. Paul Kydd of the EEVC checking out one of the shops at Penn State where students can work on their project cars.

The 21st Century Competition will have the use of the Penn State facilities which include a large testing center (shown below) at a test track near the Penn State main campus is one of the largest dynamometers in America, capable of testing large hybrid busses.
